FORNEY, TX — In a town that celebrates grit, hustle, and community, few embody those values like Daymond Patterson. A former Division I football standout turned entrepreneurial powerhouse, Patterson is the founder of The Raw Power Team (TRPT)—an elite training company based in Forney that is transforming young athletes into champions, both on and off the field.
But Patterson’s journey to Forney didn’t start with a business plan. It started with a visit to a friend.
“I grew up in Mesquite and would always pass through Forney to visit friends,” Patterson recalls. “One day, while training in Mesquite, I came out to Forney to check out a facility where a friend worked. I loved the vibe so much I ended up buying the place.”
That decision led to rapid expansion. Not only did he acquire the facility, but he quickly added two more locations nearby. Around the same time, he and his girlfriend opened Empower Dental, a dental office in Forney—further rooting themselves in the community.
A Community That Embraces Excellence
From the beginning, Forney welcomed Patterson and his ventures with open arms. “The support has been amazing—from local teams and high schools to everyday families. Everyone’s been so welcoming since day one.”
That kind of local support is crucial when your mission is to make a lasting impact.
A Vision Passed Down, Elevated for a New Generation
Patterson’s drive is fueled by family. “My dad was a trainer and trained me my whole life,” he says. “After my own football career, I knew I wanted to take his vision to new heights.”
Patterson’s football journey, including his time as a wide receiver at the University of Kansas, shaped how he approaches training today. “Not only was my dad a trainer, but I had some great coaches who were excellent trainers. I still use their drills and techniques with my athletes now.”
That blend of legacy and innovation has fueled TRPT’s growth from a local summer camp into an internationally recognized training brand.
More Than Muscle: A Holistic Approach to Greatness
What sets The Raw Power Team apart isn’t flashy equipment or name-dropping past accolades. It’s the mindset.
“I’m not just trying to build better athletes,” Patterson says. “I want to help young people become better human beings—more prepared for life.”
That includes talking to athletes about school, business, investing, and community service. “As a business owner, I want young people to understand the power of ownership and investing early.”
It’s a mindset that starts early—TRPT trains athletes as young as five or six years old and goes all the way up to the professional level. The coaching is tailored, but the standard remains elite. “We train our young athletes just like the pros,” he says. “We simplify some of the techniques for them, but the expectation is always excellence.”
Pushing Limits, Unlocking Potential
Patterson’s training motto is simple, yet powerful: “Even when you’re #1, train like you’re #2.” It’s a reminder to never stop grinding, even when you're on top.
“My goal is to push athletes to their limit—then push them a little more. I want them to realize they always have more greatness inside.”
And that belief system has produced some incredible results.
Success Stories Written in Sweat
In 2023 alone, The Raw Power Team saw two of its athletes go in the first round of their respective drafts:
- Jaxon Smith-Njigba, drafted 20th overall by the Seattle Seahawks.
- Cason Wallace, selected 10th overall by the Dallas Mavericks before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“It was surreal,” Patterson says. “To see guys you’ve worked with reach that level—it never gets old.”
Other success stories include Dez Lewis, a once-average high school receiver who turned himself into a Division I-AA recruit and eventually landed with the Buffalo Bills in the NFL. “His growth was incredible. People still talk about his journey.”
Closer to home, Patterson points to Kelvion Riggins, a standout from Forney High School who now plays for Texas A&M, as another homegrown athlete with sky-high potential.
More Than Just a Trainer
What sets Patterson apart isn’t just results—it’s relationships.
He checks in regularly on his athletes’ school performance and home life. “If you’re not taking care of business off the field, then what happens on the field doesn’t matter,” he says. “Being a great person is more important to me than being a great athlete.”
He’s also deeply committed to community service. “We work daily with individuals with special needs, providing them a place to exercise and interact. I also push my athletes to get involved in their own service projects, whether through school, youth programs, or teams.
Looking Ahead: TRPT 2.0
The future is bright for Patterson and The Raw Power Team.
“In the next few years, I see us expanding—not just training more athletes, but becoming a media and business platform too. With NIL becoming a big part of college sports, we’re helping our athletes navigate that world just as much as we’re helping them on the field.”
Expansion is also on the table in a literal sense. Patterson is exploring partnerships with other teams and trainers to extend TRPT’s reach and impact even further.
“We’re always thinking bigger. Always looking for new ways to serve more families, more athletes, and more communities.”
A Message for Forney's Future Stars
Patterson has one key piece of advice for every young athlete chasing big dreams:
“Always believe in yourself and your goals. Then make those goals even bigger. Work until you can’t anymore… and then find more to do. Nobody sees your vision like you do. Don’t let the negativity stop you.”
With his heart in the community and his sights set on greatness, Daymond Patterson and The Raw Power Team are proving that raw talent, when paired with discipline and belief, can become something truly unstoppable.
