FORNEY, Texas — Reeder Road has reopened three-and-a-half years after road conditions forced its closure in 2013.
Reeder Road was initially closed on August 14, 2013, after city officials stated its deteriorated condition would force its closure until repairs could be made.
Nearly a year later, the City of Forney reopened a 150-foot section of the road from Reeder Lane the city’s first roundabout intersection at the newly constructed Gateway Boulevard. The southern leg of Reeder Road which connected to the U.S. Highway 80 service road had remained closed since.
Now, three-and-a-half years later, the southern leg has reopened after spot repairs were made to the roadway.
The City of Forney proposes building a large community park west of the southern leg of Reeder Road which is also the site of the proposed Splash Kingdom water park. The city council recently saw drawings of the proposed park, as well as a proposed extension of Ridge Crest Road, at their city council meeting last week.
