TERRELL, Texas — Several fire departments responded to and extinguished a structure and grass fire south of Terrell on Friday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 8500 block of Abner Road for the structure and grass fire. Mutual aid was requested from the Crandall Fire Department, Kaufman Fire Department, College Mound Fire Department, and the Elmo Fire Department.
Kaufman County Deputy Fire Marshal Chad Woosley says the property owners were burning an old structure, possibly an old mobile home, when the fire became out of control and burned approximately an acre and a half of nearby grass, brush, and trash.
As of 3:20 p.m., firefighters remain on scene hitting hot spots.
