TERRELL, Texas — UPDATE — Spur 557 remained closed overnight as crews worked to cleanup the aftermath of a major crash involving two overturned 18-wheelers and a pickup truck.
Now, officials say Spur 557, a short connector between U.S. Highway 80 and Interstate 20 in Terrell, will remain closed all day Saturday in both directions.
Spur 557 is expected to reopen to one lane in both directions on Sunday morning and will remain in this traffic pattern for approximately a week while pavement contractors begin resurfacing the roadway.
ORIGINAL — A major crash involving two overturned 18-wheelers has forced the closure of both east and westbound Spur 557 on Friday night.
The crash occurred on Spur 557 near the Farm-to-Market (FM) 148 overpass.
Two 18-wheelers veered into the median of the highway and overturned, according to Terrell Police Department Corporal Z. Boyd. A pickup truck following the 18-wheelers was also involved in the crash.
The driver of the pickup truck was transported to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, with minor injuries.
Traffic on Spur 557 is being diverted off the highway, in both directions, at FM 148.
"All traffic on Spur 557 should proceed cautiously under the wet conditions and delays should be expected for several hours at the minimum," stated Boyd.
