FORNEY, Texas — UPDATE — HAZMAT crews have deemed a susbstance that prompted the closure of Forney Community Park on Tuesday night as non-hazardous.

FORNEY, Texas — UPDATE — HAZMAT crews have deemed a susbstance that prompted the closure of Forney Community Park on Tuesday night as non-hazardous.

Fire officials say the substance was wheat flour.

ORIGINAL — The Forney Community Park has been closed on Tuesday afternoon due to a possible HAZMAT incident, according to the City of Forney.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the Forney Police Department received a call about a person dumping a white powdery substance onto the ground at or near the softball fields.

A HAZMAT team out of Dallas has responded to the scene.

"The police and fire department are on scene and the situation is under control," read a statement from the City of Forney. "We will provide updates on when the park will reopen."
