TERRELL, Texas — Terrell Animal Control is seeking information on a man who abandoned several puppies overnight outside the closed gates of the animal shelter on U.S. Highway 80.
An unknown male abandoned five puppies in a cooler at approximately 1:33 a.m. outside the closed gates of the shelter, Terrell Animal Control Supervisor Jason Renfroe stated in a Tuesday release.
A person commits an offense, under Section 42.092(b)(4) if they intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly abandons an animal without making reasonable arrangements for assumption of custody by another person, according to the statement.
The five puppies, pit mixes, were covered in feces, according to Renfroe, and have since been cleaned up and rescued by Dallas Dog Rescue, Rehab, and Reform.
Soon after they were abandoned, one of the puppies climbed out of the cooler and walked around the gates and driveway area before climbing back into the cooler hours later.
The shelter is located in the 2600 block of U.S. Highway 80 near the eastern city limits of Terrell.
