Kaufman County, TX - Sometimes the Truth is Stranger than fiction. A local Terrell man is an early favorite to win "Kaufman County's Dumbest Criminal 2025" award.

In a bizarre turn of events that has left local law enforcement scratching their heads, Tamain Marquell Williams, 30, found himself in a heap of trouble after refusing to comply with a police officer's request to stop due to an outstanding warrant. Instead of simply addressing the warrant, Williams decided to walk away, claiming he "[did] not have time for that"

On February 3, 2025, Terrell police officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Moore Ave. for a welfare concern. After the initial encounter with Williams was concluded, Officer D. Bridges was notified about an active warrant for Terrell Police Department.

Officer Bridges contacted Williams near the 300 block of Lee St, informing him about the warrant. However, Williams "dismissed him by claiming that he did not have time for that" and attempted to leave the scene.

Officer Bridges, recognizing the seriousness of the situation, ordered Williams to stop. What followed was a comical yet troubling struggle as Williams, while attempting to evade the officer, was double-fisting a coffee and a beer, leading to an unusual wrestling match.

As the scuffle unfolded, Williams managed to shove Officer Bridges with his drinks, causing significant injury to the officer's right ring finger. In a frantic bid for freedom, he fled and barricaded himself in his home, prompting a SWAT team response. After an intense standoff, he was finally extracted from his residence and taken into custody.

According to the official report:

"Officer Bridges contacted Williams for said warrants in the 300 block of Lee St. Officer Bridges approached Williams and told him that he had warrant, to which Williams dismissed him by claiming that he did not have time for that, Williams began walking away at which time Officer Bridges ordered him to stop. Williams continued walking away at which time Officer Bridges grabbed Williams' right shoulder from behind, Williams spun around and shoved Officer Bridges in the chest with a coffee and beer that Williams was holding in both hands. Officer Bridges was then facing Williams and grabbed his left shoulder from the front, Williams pulled back in defensive resistance to defeat Officer Bridges' grasp, Williams then swung at Officer Bridges in active aggression while Officer Bridges still had hold of Williams' shoulder/ jacket collar. Williams then ran away on foot and barricaded himself in his nearby residence. A search warrant was issued for Williams’ residence and was ultimately arrested by Terrell SWAT"

After the incident, Officer Bridges was left with a "ring finger that was spiraled"

Now sitting in the Kaufman County Jail, Williams faces serious charges, including aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest causing serious bodily injury, with a bond set at over $100,000. All of this could have been avoided had he simply stopped when asked and dealt with the initial warrant.

This incident serves as a stark reminder: sometimes, it's best to just comply with law enforcement. Instead of escalating a minor issue into a major legal debacle, a simple "yes, officer" could save a lot of time and trouble.
