TERRELL, Texas — The Terrell Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash which occurred early Saturday morning.
At approximately 4:45 a.m., a passerby observed a black 2013 Nissan Altima in a drainage ditch in the 300 block of Lovers Lane, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom.
"The vehicle left the roadway and struck the opening to a underground drainage culvert," he said.
Responding officers located the vehicle in the drainage ditch and discovered the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, deceased.
The driver was later identified as Joel Wren III.
"He was identified by an expired driver’s license showing an address out of Commerce," stated Sansom. "He has relatives in Kaufman and in Dallas."
The Nissan Altima was registered to a person from Mesquite, Texas.
Sansom says police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
