TERRELL, Texas β€” Almost exactly a year-and-a-half after breaking ground on their new headquarters, the Terrell Police Department will host a brief dedication at the recently completed facility to usher in a new era for the department on Wednesday, January 25, 2017.

The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. in the Rosenbaum Room on the first floor within the headquarters building located at 1100 North State Highway (SH) 34.

The ceremony will open with prayer by Police Chaplain Bro. Gary Weems, a presentation of colors by the Terrell Fire Department Color Guard, and remarks from Terrell Police Department Chief Jody L. Lay. Local elected officials will be recognized before dedication remarks are made by Mayor D.J. Ory. A closing prayer will be provided by Plice Chaplain Dr. Russell Rogers.

In July 2015, the department broke ground on their new approximate 36,000-square foot, two-story facility. The new headquarters will consolidate police operations, which were previously being conducted in two buildings, to a single building β€” housing forensics, criminal investigations, a new 30-person jail, a communications/dispatch center, a 100-person capacity training/community room, and space for the municipal judge to conduct arraignments.

β€œThe facility about to be constructed on this very spot will provide a backbone for law enforcement for this community well into the future,” Lay stated during the groundbreaking ceremony.
