KAUFMAN, Texas β UPDATE [Nov. 3] βΒ The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified three people killed in a head-on crash on State Highway 243 last night.
Preliminary information indicates a 2006 Saturn SUV was traveling westbound on SH 243 when, for an as of yet to be determined reason, crossed into eastbound traffic and struck a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox head on, DPS spokesperson Lonny Haschel told inForney.com.
The driver of the Saturn, 23-year-old Emiliano Lara of Kaufman, Texas, died at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 78-year-old John Fuller of Grand Saline, and a passenger, 75-year-old Cheryl Brumfield, also both died at the scene. 74-year-old Brenda Fuller, also a passenger in the Chevrolet, was airlifted to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas with serious injuries.
Haschel says the crash remains under investigation.
ORIGINAL [Nov. 2] β Three people were killed and another was critically injured in a crash on State Highway (SH) 243 on Saturday night, according to law enforcement officials.
The crash occurred on SH 243 near John Wayne Road, east of Kaufman, Texas. SH 243 is expected to remain closed for several hours as police work to investigate the cause of the crash.
Law enforcement officials tell inForney.com three people, who have not been identified, were pronounced deceased at the scene and one was flown by helicopter to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the crash. A request for additional information has been made with the agency.
