TERRELL, Texas — Two pets were killed in an early Saturday morning house fire in Terrell.
The fire was reported just after 1 a.m. at 308 North Adelaide Street.
Terrell Fire Department Fire Marshal Captain Tom Cooper says the male occupant was alerted to the fire by a smoke detector and was able to safely evacuate. The man was unable to reach his two pets which were killed in the fire.
Cooper says the fire originated in the kitchen area and preliminary investigation indicates improper or unpermitted electrical work may be the cause of the fire.
The single-family residential structure is likely a total loss, according to Cooper.
The home was a rental property with an owner from Richardson, Texas.
