FORNEY, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)will hold a public meeting on a proposed $73 million expansion of Farm-to-Market (FM) 548.
The project isn't anticipated to begin until 2023 with a proposed completion date in 2025, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
The May 9 meeting will allow TxDOT to receive public comments on the proposed reconstruction and widening of FM 548 from north of U.S. Highway 80 in Forney to State Highway (SH) 205 in Rockwall County — a distance of approximately 7.3 miles.
The meeting will be an open-house style meeting will have no formal presentation and will be held at North Forney High School, located at 6170 Falcon Way, from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 9, 2017.
“TxDOT staff and consultants will have drawings and maps on hand and will provide one-on-one answers to questions,” the Texas Department of Transportation stated in a notification.
The project proposes to reconstruct and widen existing FM 548 from a two‐lane rural highway to a six‐lane urban divided roadway from U.S. Highway 80 to Windmill Farms Boulevard. The improvements will continue north from Windmill Farms to SH 205 as a proposed four‐lane divided curbed roadway.
“It would include curb and gutter, sidewalks, intersection improvements and left‐turn and right‐turn lanes at designated locations,” states TxDOT. “The right of way (ROW) width varies from 130 to 235 feet. Additional ROW would be required.”
The project is estimated at $73 million and is anticipated to begin in 2023 with a proposed completion date by 2025.
