TERRELL, Texas — A utility worker was struck and killed by an airborne vehicle on Farm-to-Market (FM) 429 on Tuesday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At approximately 11:42 a.m., preliminary investigation indicates a black pickup truck was traveling south on FM 429 when, as of yet to be determined reasons, left the roadway, struck a parked vehicle, and went into a side skid into a culvert, Texas Department of Public Safety Staff Sergeant Kyle Bradford told inForney.com.

After entering the culvert, the pickup truck went airborne, struck a utility worker, and overturned into the roadway.

The crash occurred on FM 429 approximately one mile north of Terrell.

The utility worker, 34-year-old Ulises Chavez of Grand Saline, Texas, was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Bradford.

Chavez was employed by J&L Utility Services which was contracted for service along FM 429 at the time of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck, who is from Red Oak, Texas, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the parked vehicle that was struck by the pickup truck, was not injured.

"The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is currently available," stated Bradford.
