FORNEY, Texas — An 11-year-old Forney girl was recognized on Tuesday night at the city council meeting for collecting shoes to donate in lieu of birthday gifts.
“Throughout the months of November and December 2016, Jaycee and her family worked to collect over 342 pairs of shoes for the needy,” Forney Mayor Rick Wilson read from a certificate of recognition presented to 11-year-old Jaycee Lanae Bissell during the council meeting.
“Instead of receiving birthday gifts for her birthday, Jaycee asked family and friends to bring shoes to her birthday party. The love for others allowed her the opportunity to donate the shoes to the Forney Food Pantry, the Buckner Orphanage, and the Bridge Homeless Recovery Center in Dallas,” read the certificate.
“It is young ladies such as Jaycee that make our small community great and the council thanks your for unselfishness and caring for the less fortunate,” read the certificate.
Bissell was also featured on Fox 4 News where she said the outpouring of support in her shoe collection and donation endeavor was the best gift she could receive.
