FORNEY, Texas — Firefighters extinguished an 18-wheeler fire overnight in Forney in which a tire explosion caused alarm with nearby residents.
Just before 12:30 a.m., troopers say the 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 80 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the back wheels.
The U.S. Foods driver was hauling two refrigerated pup trailers at the time of the incident, came to a stop in the Dairy Queen parking lot on the south service road of U.S. Highway 80, and disconnected the rear pup trailer where the fire was located.
Firefighters say one of the tires exploded during the fire which alarmed several nearby residents.
The fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.
