TERRELL, Texas — Multiple award winning actor, singer, and comedian, Jamie Foxx, gave a shoutout to his hometown teachers earlier today.
Foxx, a Terrell High School graduate and once its football quarterback, sent the video message, see below, during the Terrell Independent School District’s Convocation earlier this morning.
“Shoutout to all my teachers, thank you so very much,” he said. “Where would anybody be without teachers.”
Foxx thanked his teachers who helped guide him through life, leading to his many accomplishments on stage, the big screen, and in music — winning some 46 awards, including an Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy Award, and nearly 80 other nominations.
“Im talking about the teachers of Terrell,” he said. “Without my teachers when I was growing up, I never would have been able to accomplish what Ive accomplished.”
“I just want to say to all the teachers, thank you so much for doing a job sometimes can be thankless,” he said.
With the first day of school quickly approaching, Foxx told current teachers to continue inspiring students so that they, too, could achieve their dreams.
“With your intellect, your help, and with your guidance, you're going to make all those kids feel like life is worth living,” he said.
Foxx, in claiming “Turrul,” says he’s planning something big in his hometown.
“Ive never said I was from Dallas or nowhere else in Texas. I saw Terrell,” he said. “Im coming down there, we’re gonna do something big, something big for everybody.”
The first day of school for Terrell ISD is Monday, August 21, 2017.
On Saturday, August 26, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., Terrell ISD will host a community-wide open house for Kennedy Elementary School, Wood Elementary School, and Furlough Middle School to showcase the improvements brought on by voter-approved bonds in 2016.
