TERRELL, Texas — Police say alcohol may have played a factor on both sides of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash which occurred on South Rockwall Avenue early Wednesday morning.
At 12:32 a.m., the Terrell Police Department and Terrell Fire Department responded to the crash in the 900 block of South Rockwall Avenue.
A pewter-colored Cadillac, traveling southbound on South Rockwall Avenue, struck a pedestrian who was walking in the middle of the road, according to Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom in a Wednesday morning release.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and was later arrested for intoxication assault, according to Sansom. The driver, identified as 43-year-old Antonio Harris of Terrell, Texas, consented to a blood draw and was transported to LakePointe Hospital in Forney before being booked into the Terrell City Jail. The results of the blood draw are pending.
The pedestrian, identified as 44-year-old L.B. Williams, also of Terrell, was taken by ambulance to the Terrell Municipal Airport where a CareFlite medical helicopter airlifted him to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, with serious, non-life threatening injuries described as a fractured lower leg and injuries to the head.
Officers reported smelling a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Williams, according to Sansom.
South Rockwall Avenue remained closed near W. H. Burnett Elementary School while police continued to investigate the crash.
