CRANDALL, Texas — Westbound U.S. Highway 175 is expected to remain closed for at least another hour or two in Crandall after an 18-wheeler crash, fire, and HAZMAT cleanup.
Just after 10 a.m., an eastbound 18-wheeler hauling a cattle trailer reportedly had a blow-out causing it to strike the center median guardrail. The 18-wheeler damaged approximately 100-yards of the center median guardrail before stopping and erupting in flames.
The Crandall Volunteer Fire Department and Kaufman Fire Department responded to and extinguished the fire.
The driver was able to escape the blaze without any injuries. The cattle trailer was empty at the time of the crash.
Westbound U.S. Highway 175 has been closed at Bud Stoy Road and traffic is being diverted onto the service road. One lane eastbound is passing on the shoulder. One lane westbound may possibly be reopened after the truck-tractor and trailer are removed from the center median guardrail.
Lone Star HAZMAT is on scene to cleanup approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel.
