Winter Weather Updates Around Kaufman County - Warming Stations/Closures

KAUFMAN COUNTY - As winter weather settles into Kaufman County, several municipalities have already announced warming stations and facility closures.

KAUFMAN COUNTY - As winter weather settles into Kaufman County, several municipalities have already announced warming stations and facility closures.

In Terrell, a warming station will be located at Terrell Police Headquarters, 1100 N. State Highway 34. In Kaufman, the city has announced that “all restrooms at Shannon Park, City Lakes Park, and Kaufman Sports Complex will be closed and winterized due to the freezing weather conditions. This closure will last until Monday, January 13, 2025.”

In Forney, the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Tuesday, January 7th, has been canceled.

The U.S. National Weather Service in Fort Worth has provided some tips to help you prepare for the winter weather and possible precipitation. The NWS recommends monitoring the forecast closely, having emergency supplies for your home and car, adjusting plans and multiple ways to access warnings, checking on neighbors and family, and keeping generators at least 20 feet away from your house.

To help keep pipes from freezing, allow your inside faucets to be on a slow drip, and open cabinet doors to allow heat to get to the interior pipes. Disconnecting, draining, and covering outdoor faucets can help prevent pipes from freezing. If you have an irrigation system, make sure that it’s off.
