FORNEY, Texas — Work on a large mural in downtown Forney began last week.
The project officially began in late 2014 after the Forney Downtown Business Association applied for and received Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) Funds for the project which is being painted on the side of the donut shop located at 201 South Bois D’Arc Street.
The artist, Sunny Delipsey of Athens, Texas, says work on the mural may take up to six weeks, weather dependent.
The mural will have several different scenes based on historic photos of downtown Forney, according to Deplisey.
Delipsey recently returned from Galveston, Texas, where she recreated a mural she had originally painted in 1994 on The Grand 1894 Opera House which underwent a restoration project to reclaim the historic brick wall. Her work on this project was picked up by the Associated Press and published in the Washington Times.
Deplisey is also known locally for her work in Terrell, Texas, on several murals including the historic fire service mural on the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department and the mural of Colonel Green and his 1899 automobile which was the first gas-powered automobile in Texas.
