FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School (6-4, 3-4) football team clinched its third straight Unity Bowl title on Friday night, November 7, 2014, against cross-town rival and fellow District 12-5A contender North Forney High School (1-9, 0-7).
Forney’s Chazz Slatinsky scored four touchdowns en route to the Jackrabbits 48-0 shutout of North Forney — one of which was a punt return. The Jackrabbits amassed 420 total yards, scored 41 points in the first half, and forced three turnovers.
Senior Slatinsky scored on his first three carries of the game in the 1st and 2nd quarters with a 15-yard run, 9-yard run, and a 1-yard run. His fourth touchdown came in the final minute of the 2nd quarter when he returned a punt for a 44-yard touchdown.
North Forney’s offense took an early major hit when Rice-commit, quarterback and defensive back Hunter Herndon was ejected from the game for a late helmet-to-helmet hit. North Forney suffered a second ejection in the 2nd quarter when Hunter McClain broke up a would-be touchdown and had words with the ref over contact which forced a drop of his would-be interception on the break-up.
Also scoring for Forney in the 1st half of the game were EJ Newman on a 15-yard run and Luke Skipper with a 19-yard quarterback keeper up the middle — leaping over the last defender on the goal line. Skipper also threw for 140 yards on 14 attempts, threw a touchdown, and rushed for 110 yards on 12 carries.
The sole touchdown in the 2nd half of the game was a 39-yard Skipper pass to AJ Atnip.
Leading the Falcons offense —194 total yards— was Darius Palmer with 48 yards on 12 carries. Quarterback Brent Taylor had his best showing of his unexpected mid-season starting lineup, passing for 41 yards and rushing for 23 on 6 carries.
