FORNEY, Texas β€” It was a long night for the Jackrabbit faithful as they watched their team fall to the Lindale Eagles 40-0. This loss will make the Jackrabbits 1-1 on the season as they prepare for district play beginning next week.

In the first quarter the teams looked to be evenly matched. Both teams exchanged punts several times in what appeared to be a battle for field position. Early in the second quarter the Jackrabbits held the Eagles to a field goal after an impressive goal line stand. Defensive plays by linebackers Landon Ervin and Tochukwu Anusiem kept the Eagles to just 3 points.

Then things turned sour for the Jackrabbits. The Eagles went on to score 19 unanswered points before the half. Hoping to regroup and come out in the second half and put themselves back into the ball game, the Jackrabbits were unfortunately not able to pull it off. Junior running back Jordan Jenkins for Lindale took the opening kickoff off back 92 yards for a touchdown. This brought the score to 26-0 and the Jackrabbits were unable to rally from there. A final score of 40-0 will send the team with a 1-1 record into district play with plenty to improve upon, most of which is the injury bug which seems to have affected several key players.

There were several bright spots worth mentioning in the loss. One of which was running back Jayln Phillips. Philly had 20 carries for 75 yards for an average of 4 yards per carry. Another would be the punter Colby Ortega. Colby had 7 punts for 315 yards. An average of 45 yards per punt with his longest being a 52 yarder. Another player that stood out for me was the play of sophomore and JV call-up Grayson Williams. In his first Varsity start, Grayson (while splitting time with fellow Sophomore cornerback Dylan Amendson) came up big for the Jackrabbit Defense. Linebacker Tayton Auldridge was also asked to fill in for the injured Grayson Burris with minimal practice at the position.

Next week the Jackrabbits will take on the North Forney Falcons in the District 8 5AII opener at City Bank Stadium. Tune in to the game on www.sportsgram.net and listen to Brandon, Nate and Ben bring you all of the action.
