State Readies for Potential Severe Weather Impact
In anticipation of a tropical weather system set to impact East and Southeast Texas, Governor Greg Abbott has instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to activate state emergency resources. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the effects of the impending storm, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall starting tonight.
"As this tropical system approaches our state, Texas is taking swift action to prepare and respond," stated Governor Abbott. "The State of Texas stands ready to deploy all resources needed to protect Texans and support our communities as they brace for potential severe weather. Texans are urged to remain weather-aware and heed the guidance of local officials."
Monitoring and Preparedness Efforts
The National Hurricane Center is closely tracking the storm system as it moves across the northern Gulf Coast. The forecast indicates a significant risk of heavy rain and rip currents along the Texas Coast, while severe storms with potential flooding are anticipated in the Panhandle region through the end of the week. Residents are advised to stay updated with local forecasts.
State Emergency Resources Deployed
Under the Governor’s directive, an array of state emergency response resources is being positioned to assist local operations. These resources include:

Texas A&M Forest Service (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System): Strike Teams with personnel and fire engines for all-hazard support.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department: Game Wardens, boat teams, and helicopters for flood rescues.

Public Utility Commission of Texas: Power outage monitoring and utility provider coordination.
