FORNEY - Forney broke ground on the Village At Gateway, a long-awaited project billed as one of the most significant retail development projects in Texas and the Southwest.
“Today, we’re gathered here for an occasion that marks a defining moment in Forney’s story—a milestone that will transform our community, shape our economy, and celebrate our vision for a brighter future,” said Forney Mayor Jason Roberson.
“This project stands as a testament to our shared commitment, hard work, and patience. It’s been a long journey, but I think we can all agree: Forney deserves this.”
The project, which has been discussed for almost two decades, will create hundreds of jobs, generate sales tax dollars, and provide residents with amenities. Home Depot, Target, and HEB will be among the retailers, as will restaurants and other retail services.
“The Village at Gateway will be more than a shopping center; it will be a gathering place, a destination, and a source of pride for Forney,” said Mayor Roberson.
Council Member Sarah Salgado spoke during the event, stating that they heard about this planned development when she and her family moved to Forney. Yet, through the years, with economic downturns and obstacles pushing the project further down the road, there was still hope that the day would come. She concluded by saying that soon, Forney residents can shop in town and reinvest those dollars into the community.
The mayor and council members thanked City Staff, the Economic Development Board, the retailers and lenders, the developer, and, most importantly, the Citizens of Forney.
“Thank you to everyone who believed in this vision, to our development partners, city staff, and the people of Forney. Let’s get to work, and let’s build a future that we can all be proud of,” said Mayor Roberson.
