CRANDALL, Texas — A man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing his mother during a dispute with his brother faces an additional charge of injury to a child and is now being held on bonds totaling $600,000 as well as an immigration detainer.
CRANDALL, Texas — A man charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly stabbing his mother during a dispute with his brother faces an additional charge of injury to a child and is now being held on bonds totaling $600,000 as well as an immigration detainer.
An arrest warrant affidavit, obtained by inForney.com, alleges 20-year-old Edwin Murguia-Castruita struck his 12-year-old brother repeatedly in the head when he returned home on March 19, 2019.
According to witness statements, when the mother returned home following the first attack, Murguia-Castruita again attacked the younger brother — striking him in the head repeatedly until he fell to the ground, at which point he began stomping on the boy's face and head.
The boy told police he lost consciousness for an unknown amount of time and awoke to his mother calling him from the living room.
"He was able to get up and go to her and found her laying in the living room with a large amount of blood surrounding her," states the affidavit.
Police say the mother attempted to intervene in the dispute between the brothers and was stabbed multiple times by Murguia-Castruita with an unknown-type weapon.
The younger brother was assessed by CareFlite and driven by a deputy to the Kaufman County Children's Advocacy Center in Kaufman. While enroute, the boy reportedly kept going in an out of consciousness and was not making sense. A CareFlite unit arrived on scene and advised police the boy may have suffered a skull fracture. He was taken by medical helicopter to Children's Hospital in Dallas due to the "possible severity" of his head injuries.
The boy has since been released from the hospital, according to police. The mother's current condition is unknown at the time of press.
The attack occurred at the family's residence in the 9000 block of Jesse Way — which is a Crandall address located in unincorporated Kaufman County just south of Talty.
Murguia-Castruita was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, family violence and was held on a $200,000 bond. He has since been charged with injury to a child and is being held on an additional bond of $400,000 and an immigration detainer.
