GARLAND, Texas — A Texas death row inmate, Jedidiah Isaac Murphy, was executed for a two-decade-old murder, marking the sixth execution in the state this year, according to Texas Department of Criminal Justice data.
Murphy, with a prior prison record for burglary of a habitation and burglary of a vehicle, was released in 1994 on shock probation.
On October 4, 2000, Murphy forced a 79-year-old white female into her car at gunpoint in Garland. After a 30-minute drive, he forced the victim into the trunk of the car and shot her.
Murphy then drove the victim's car to Van Zandt County, where he removed the victim from the trunk and drowned her in a creek. He later used the victim's credit cards to purchase alcohol and cigarettes.
