TERRELL, Texas — Police seized drugs, cash, and a vehicle following a brief police pursuit on Monday afternoon in Terrell.

TERRELL, Texas — Police seized drugs, cash, and a vehicle following a brief police pursuit on Monday afternoon in Terrell.

Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says narcotics investigators observed 29-year-old Markish Woodard of Terrell, Texas, driving a silver Ford Explorer at the corner of Dallas Street and South Adelaide Street at approximately 3:51 p.m. on Monday.

“This subject is known to officers and they had prior knowledge he had an expired drivers license,” stated Sansom.

The narcotics officers were driving a marked patrol vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop of Woodard’s vehicle by activating the overhead lights, according to Sansom. Woodard failed to yield and the officers activated the siren when officers observed Woodard throwing items out of the driver side window.

The items landed in a ditch at the corner of Newton Street at South Catherine Street where other officers were immediately deployed and recovered the items without delay, according to Sansom.

Woodard stopped several blocks from the initial contact location in a parking lot at the corner of West Grove Street and South Frances Street.

“After back up arrived, Woodard was taken into custody,” stated Sansom.

Woodard was charged with evading arrest or detention with a vehicle with previous convictions, manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in penalty group 1 greater than or equal to four grams and less than 200 grams, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.

$1,045 in U.S. currency which was located on Woodard’s person was seized as investigators believe it was proceeds from the sale of illegal narcotics.

The items tossed from the vehicle were, according to police, two clear plastic baggies containing sixteen brown bottles which contained a liquid substance that tested presumptive positive for Phencyclidine, or PCP, two clear baggies containing a green leafy substance, an empty bottle, and a box of baggies.

The PCP weighed 58 grams with packaging and 12.2 grams net and the suspected marijuana weighed 40.4 grams, according to Sansom.

The vehicle was also seized following an inventory search.
