A Forney woman was arrested by Forney PD after she hit a mailbox, left the scene, and then subsequently drove her SUV into a house in the Trails of Chestnut Meadow neighborhood on the morning of January 22. No one was injured, though the suspect had an infant and toddler in her vehicle at the time of the accidents.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. the suspect, Kristal McKown, 29, struck a mailbox in the 300 block of Spruce and then continued on through the neighborhood. The homeowner, Elaine Johnston Barnett was not at home at the time. The large brick mailbox was completely knocked off its foundation.

Suspect McKown continued driving her white Hyundai Santa Fe SUV through the neighborhood and, at about 8:50 a.m., she drove over two curbs right before her vehicle crashed through the front of a home in the 500 block of Madrone. There were no brake marks at the scene.

A teenaged neighbor of the homeowner heard the crash and ran to help. When he got to the house owned by his neighbor Amy Parks, he discovered the white SUV crashed through the front wall just to the left of the front door. The vehicle was still inside the house, and McKown and two small children were sitting inside the vehicle. The neighbor pulled the suspect and children from the car and called 911. The suspect was not coherent when the witness approached her.

Neither McKown nor the children in the vehicle were injured and no one was home at the time of the crash. The Forney Fire Department and Forney Police Department responded to the scene. The children inside the vehicle were picked up at the scene by their father. McKown also lives in the Trails of Chestnut Meadow neighborhood.

Amy Parks was very thankful that she and her three children were not home when the crash occurred. The room that the suspect drove through is used as office space but, as of last month, it was her young daughter's bedroom. Her three dogs were home at the time of the incident, but none were injured. Parks' house is already being repaired by a local contractor. She said, “It's been insane. I was on the second day of a brand new job and I couldn't just up and leave work when this happened. I'm glad these guys came out here to start repairing my home immediately.”

McKown was arrested by Forney PD and booked into the Forney Jail on a felony charge of DWI with a child under 15 years of age in the vehicle. She was also charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance in an amount of more than 3 grams and less than 28 grams, and she was charged with a misdemeanor for striking a fixture/highway landscape that cost more than $200. She was later transferred to the Kaufman County Jail and was released on an unknown bond amount.
