Kaufman County grand jury indicts former constable's deputy with tampering with a witness

FORNEY, Texas — A Kaufman County grand jury has indicted a former Precinct 2 Constable's Office deputy with tampering with a witness, a third-degree felony.

On November 30, 2018, the grand jury indicted former deputy John Paul Bohmer with one count of tampering with a witness.

The Texas Rangers arrested Bohmer on the charge on January 12, 2017, and booked him into the Kaufman County Jail. He was released the same day after posting a $10,000 bond.

Bohmer was terminated from the Precinct 2 Constable's Office in mid-2016 after an investigation into his personal use of a department vehicle and allegations of falsifying government documents. The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) then suspended Bohmer's license in May 2016 pending a review and appeal process, according to records obtained by inForney.com.

It was then, investigators tell inForney.com, Bohmer was captured on surveillance video sliding a note under the door of the Forney Sub-Courthouse.

The letter allegedly threatened the safety of several individuals in connection with his TCOLE review, including Precinct 2 Constable Jason Johnson and his family — which led to the tampering charge.

inForney.com is awaiting additional details from TCOLE on Bohmer's current license status. This story will be updated when that information is received.
