MESQUITE, Texas โ A man has been arrested in connection with the death of missing Dallas Independent School District teacher 24-year-old Jennifer Mende Olascoaga of Dallas, Texas, the Mesquite Police Department announced moments ago.
MESQUITE, Texas โ A man has been arrested in connection with the death of missing Dallas Independent School District teacher 24-year-old Jennifer Mende Olascoaga of Dallas, Texas, the Mesquite Police Department announced moments ago.
Olascoaga had been reported missing in early October and had not been seen since late September.
Her car had been discovered abandoned on September 28, 2023, near the intersection of Milam Road and Lawson Road.
Early in the missing person's investigation, police were forwarded text messages from a friend regarding Olascoaga's disappearance.
"These messages have been forwarded to investigators and are being looked at further," read a statement from the Seagoville Police Department. "These text messages contained content that would lead one to believe that Jenniferโs disappearance may involve foul play."
During a search of a wooded area on October 12, 2023, near Interstate 20 and Lawson road, the Seagoville Police Department discovered her remains, which were located inside the Mesquite city limits.
The Mesquite Police Department received positive identification from the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office, which ruled her death a homicide.
Through investigation, the Mesquite Police Department 34-year-old Sixto Banegas Matute of Balch Springs, Texas, as the alleged suspect in Olascoaga's homicide, according to the department.
Matute was arrested Wednesday, January 10, 2024, and charged with murder.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
