KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man who is serving a 35-year sentence for a 2001 Kaufman County murder was sentenced earlier today to 80 years in prison in connection with a 1989 murder in Plano.
KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A man who is serving a 35-year sentence for a 2001 Kaufman County murder was sentenced earlier today to 80 years in prison in connection with a 1989 murder in Plano.
The Dallas Morning News announced the new sentence earlier today.
51-year-old Temmie Cooley is currently serving a 35-year sentence in the 2001 murder of 47-year-old Earlene Warrell, whose body was found off Malloy Bridge Road in Kaufman County. Cooley was sentenced in 2004 in that case, according to Texas Department of Criminal Justice records.
In 2014, 13 years into Cooley’s sentence, the Plano Police Department announced new evidence in their 1989 cold-case murder of 23-year-old Sharon Trimble — DNA evidence which linked to Cooley.
Cooley was later indicted for the murder of Trimble. Earlier today, a jury found him guilty.
Cooley received an 80-year prison sentence for the murder of Trimble which will be served concurrent to his current 35-year sentence.
Cooley is currently being held at the Collin County Jail on a trial bench warrant.
