TERRELL, Texas — A Seagoville man has been arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the Verizon Wireless store in Terrell last week after being apprehended following a similar armed robbery in Seagoville.
The man, identified as 44-year-old Jeff Johnson of Seagoville, Texas, wore a red costume beard, black hoodie, and brandished a small, .25-caliber handgun in both robberies.
On Thursday, October 12, 2017, at approximately 9:45 a.m., the Terrell Police Department responded to the Verizon Wireless store at 177 Sam Walton Way in reference to an armed robbery.
Johnson allegedly entered the store with a large duffel bag and demanded money and electronic devices. He fled out the back door and into a densely wooded area behind the shopping center and evaded capture. The bag full of electronic devices, and other evidence including the red costume beard, was found under a tree during an hours-long sweep of the area.
The next day, an armed robbery was reported at the AT&T store in Seagoville. The suspect was described as wearing a black hoodie and a red costume beard. He also brandished a small handgun and demanded money and electronic devices.
A witness observed the man flee in a vehicle which was located by Seagoville Police Department officers driving on the service road near the robbery location. Police arrested Johnson who was found to be in possession of the stolen items from AT&T, a red costume beard, a beanie cap, and a .25-caliber semi-automatic handgun.
Police say Johnson gave a full confession to the AT&T robbery which led to a confession in the Verizon Wireless robbery.
Johnson is currently being held at the Dallas County Jail on a $25,000 bond for aggravated robbery filed by the Seagoville Police Department. He faces an additional aggravated robbery charge out of Terrell.
