TERRELL, Texas โ Two of five suspects who wore police tactical gear and identified themselves as police officers before perpetrating an armed home invasion in July 2015 are scheduled to plea in the coming weeks.
The three other suspects already pled guilty to the charge of aggravated robbery and received prison sentences between eight and 20 years.
On July 21, 2015, the Kaufman County Sheriffโs Office received a call of an armed home invasion in which five individuals who had dressed as police officers and identified themselves as such entered a residence join County Road 272 and bound the victim. The individuals fled in a vehicle which was seen by a responding police officer traveling northbound on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148.
A brief pursuit ensued through portions of south Terrell before the suspect vehicle crashed through a barbed-wire fence on Rosehill Road and all five suspects fled on foot โ leading multiple police agencies, including a DPS helicopter and the Texas Department of Corrections mounted horse and blood hound units, on an hours-long manhunt in the area.
Nearly five hours later, all five suspects were taken into custody without further incident. The suspects were identified as Michael Scott Nelson, Diamond Malik Gibbs, Casey Wyatt Minshew, Aaron Duane White, and Brandon Cole Thompson.
Thompson pled guilty to the charge of aggravated robbery in January 2016 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. In September and October 2016, Nelson and Gibbs also pled guilty and were each sentenced to eight years in prison, respectively.
Minshew has a plea hearing scheduled for November 7, 2016, and a plea negotiation conference scheduled for November 16, 2016 โ the same day White is also scheduled for a plea negotiation conference.
