TERRELL, Texas — Two men are facing charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping after Terrell police responded to an assault call involving an alleged armed individual which was later linked to a separate robbery and kidnapping.
Terrell Police Department Captain A.D. Sansom says a chain of events was sparked off Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at approximately 12:40 p.m. when his department received the initial 911 call regarding a disturbance in the 800 block of East High Street in Terrell.
“[The] caller advised that four persons at this residence were trying to kill her and that one of them had an ‘AK- 47,’” stated Sansom.
Officers responded to the residence and detained three unarmed men for questioning. No obvious signs of injuries were observed but, upon further investigation, officers recovered a stolen rifle and ATV, ammunition, drug paraphernalia.
“Officers contacted the reporting party who advised that a juvenile had been assaulted and threatened,” stated Sansom.
Police also impounded a 1999 Dodge Dakota, which was not registered to or owned by the individuals, and recovered nearly 200 rounds of live ammunition ranging in caliber from 7.62x39mm, 9mm, .22, 12-guage, and 30x30.
A 14-year-old female who was present was determined to be a runaway from Fort Worth, Texas. “She was recovered and is safe, unharmed,” according to Sansom.
Utilities to the home were disconnected by the City of Terrell Code Enforcement and Fire Marshal after “current and present hazards were discovered at the residence,” stated Sansom.
While police were continuing to investigate the disturbance and interviewing the individuals, Sansom says the department received a 911 call about a robbery which had already occurred.
The suspects in the robbery were identified as the individuals detained for questioning in the disturbance, according to Sansom. The suspects allegedly robbed the complainant and took him to another location where he was dropped off.
Arrested were 24-year-old Jamar Dendarrell Offord of Crandall, Texas, and 17-year-old Robert J Tate of Balch Springs, Texas. Both are facing charges for aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Offord is also facing a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Sansom says the investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are possible. A third suspect has been identified in the robbery and kidnapping case, according to Sansom.
