CRANDALL, Texas โ A team of five 3rd graders from Crandall ISD's Martin Elementary have become the first in their district to qualify and advance to the Destination Imagination state competition.
Destination Imagination, Inc, is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and inspiring students through unique educational experiences across seven project-based Challenge types โ Technical, Scientific, Engineering, Fine Arts, Improvisational, Service Learning, and Early Learning, according to their website.
The students, Baker, Tatum, Patricia, Shooter, and Aiden, were led by Mrs. Danielle Moore as they competed in the East Texas regional competition against more than 30 other schools, both public and private โ ultimately winning 1st place and advancing to the state competition.
The students competed in the Monster Effect challenge, built a small wooden structure that supported 210 pounds, created and performed a play that had to contain at least one special effect, and a monster in it (as well as built their own props for this play), and also participated in an instant challenge that has to remain secret, according to a GoFundMe account aimed at raising funds for the team's state competition trip.
The state competition will be held on March 23rd and 24th in Corpus Christi, Texas.
