For middle schoolers, this is farthest they can advance in UIL competition and the students at Brown Middle School have been preparing since last October. All their hard work and determination paid off as they performed “The Jungle Book” and took home 1st place.
Brown Middle School competed against Forney's Warren Middle School and other area middle schools from Red Oak, Waxahachie, Ennis, Ferris, and Terrell.
18 individual awards were given out to the nearly 110 students who performed in the competition. Brown Middle School 7th graders Caden Kent received an All-Star Cast award for his role as "Shere Khan" and Laura Estrada won an Honorable Mention All-Star Cast award for her role as "Bagheera". Brown Middle School 8th grader Stone Phillips won the Best Crew award for running the stage lights during the show.
The Brown Middle School students will be performing their award winning "The Jungle Book" for the community on Saturday, February 2, at North Forney High School at 7:00p.m. The performance serves as a major fundraising opportunity for the students and the money raised will be used for costumes, stage props, and other instrumental items used during their plays. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students K-12th grade.
Brown Middle School's Theatre Director Jessica Kent proudly proclaimed, “The grand majority of these kids have never stepped on stage a day in their life before they auditioned for me. In fact, I only had one returning cast member this year. These kids sacrificed hanging out with friends, playing video games, and even sports in order to stay after school every day for 2 ½ hours since October 15th to prepare for “The Jungle Book”. I was relentless with them when it came to memorizing lines, moving like animals, and even making animal noises! These kids far surpassed even my expectations! They are nothing short of spectacular! You really do have to see them to believe it.”
