CRANDALL, Texas — The Crandall Independent School District (ISD) Education Foundation officially broke ground on a lighthouse donor monument on January 4, 2015.

The lighthouse monument will list the founding donors of the Crandall ISD Education Foundation who contributed $250 or more to the foundation.

The Crandall ISD Education Foundation “provides funds for innovative and creative educational programs and activities which have not been funded by the normal operating budget,” according to the foundation’s website.

“These funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development, recognize and encourage staff excellence, and to expand community involvement from individuals, businesses and civic organizations,” the website states.

In its first year, the foundation awarded eight innovative teaching grants worth more than $23,000 to Crandall ISD teachers, recognized four distinguished teachers and awarded them $250 to be used in their classroom, and honored two students through the student scholarship application process.

For more information on the foundation and to donate, visit their website, www.cisdeducationfoundation.com.

Completion of the monument is expected in spring of 2016.
