FORNEY, Texas β The Forney High School Student Council celebrated Arbor Day on April 24, 2015, by planting two trees on campus.
The students were inspired by a quote from English author Thomas Fuller who said βHe that plants trees, loves others besides himself,β according to Forney High School Student Council Sponsor Phillip Jenkins who is also a United State History and Psychology/Sociology teacher.
βThis quote inspired the Forney High School Student Council to show love for others on April 24th,β stated Jenkins.
With the help of the Forney Independent School District Maintenance and Facility Department Director Alan Meeks, the students planted the trees between the auditorium and gymnasium.
According to ArborDay.com, Arbor Day, which is on April 24, is a special day set aside for the planting of trees, and this holiday was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska, and is now observed throughout the nation and the world, stated Jenkins.
