Kemp ISD announced today that they have canceled all classes for Thursday, December 21 do to numerous confirmed cases of the flu and reports of those with flu like symptoms. Kemp students will not return to classes until after the new year.
Sunnyvale ISD was forced to close its campuses earlier this month for the same problem.
Forney ISD Director of Communications, Larry Coker said that there have not been an alarming amount of flu related absences and no plans to close schools early. Forney ISD dismisses for the holiday break on Friday.
Crandall and Terrell ISD began their holiday break today, while Kaufman ISD will dismiss on Thursday.
Experts agree that the flu shot is still the best preventative measure to combat the virus.
βIt is definitely not too late to get a flu shot,β said Dr. Ben Brashear, a local primary care physician. βIt usually takes 10 to 14 days for the flu shot to be effective, and we continue to administer those through March.β
Seniors citizens, children and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to the flu virus and should seek medical attention when flu like symptoms arise.
