Forney and North Forney High Schools celebrate graduating class of 2013

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Forney High School and North Forney High School graduates crossed the stage in back-to-back ceremonies held at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. The class of 2013 is the first class to attend North Forney High School for all four years since its construction.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, Forney High School and North Forney High School graduates crossed the stage in back-to-back ceremonies held at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. The class of 2013 is the first class to attend North Forney High School for all four years since its construction.

The massive center, which is owned by Garland ISD and hosts graduation ceremonies for many DFW area districts, was packed with enthusiastic parents, family members, teachers, and staff. Cheerful, and tearful, parents watched as their students crossed the stage and were awarded their high school diplomas.

Forney High School recognized Amanda Koif as the valedictorian and Jonah Willis as the salutatorian. North Forney High School recognized Alyssa Holland as valedictorian and Sana Qureshi as the salutatorian.

Many Forney Independent School District students were presented awards before the graduation ceremony at several different award ceremonies. Some of the awards submitted are presented below:

Forney ISD Board President Keith Bell presented the FISD Board of Trustees Scholarship for $4,000 to Forney High School student Travis Coltharp and North Forney High School student Sana Qureshi.

The Forney Lions Club presented six seniors with scholarships, three students from each high school in the FISD. From Forney High School, the Lions Club presented Jacob Norris, Joel Smith, and Clayton Haughey with scholarships. From North Forney High School, the Lions Club presented Laura Ann Escobedo, Victory Christian Harner, and Terry Glynn Jackson Jr. with scholarships.

Forney High School graduate Haley Penn was presented with the first ever scholarship from the Matthew Ross DeFillippo SWAG (Someone Who Admires God) Foundation. Penn was presented a comemorative plaque in honor of the scholarship by Tina DelFillipo on the one year anniversary of the passing of Matthew DelFillipo.

The Clay Jones Legacy Foundation presented scholarships to Forney High School graduates Kara Bradshaw, Ashley Cannaday, Mina Chatman, Hunter Blair, Taylor Wilson, Jacob Whitaker, Haley Penn, Jacob Norris, Zachary McDowell, Clayton Chadwick, Cameron Johnson, and Jamie Taylor. The foundation also presented scholarships to North Forney High School graduates Kade King and Christian Harner.
