DESOTO, Texas — The Forney High School band’s 2014 production “Immortal” receives Grand Champion award at the 27th annual Desoto Marching Contest — the second Grand Champion award of the 2014 competition season in as many weeks.
DESOTO, Texas — The Forney High School band’s 2014 production “Immortal” receives Grand Champion award at the 27th annual Desoto Marching Contest — the second Grand Champion award of the 2014 competition season in as many weeks.
The Forney High School band attended the contest on Saturday, October 11, 2014, in Desoto, Texas. The 2014 “Immortal” production is lead on to the field by drum majors Hannah Rossler, Joseph Fadely, and Alex Martinez.
In prelims competition the Forney High School band was awarded Outstanding Winds Large Class, Outstanding Marching Large Class, Outstanding Colorguard Large Class, Outstanding Drum Majors, and Overall Best in Class, according to Forney ISD Performing Arts Director Mario Luna.
Going into the finals competition, the band was unanimously ranked 1st place by each judge.
In finals competition, the band was awarded Best Overall Winds, Best Overall Marching, Best Overall Colorguard, Best General Effect, and Grand Champion. The Forney High School band also received the Grand Champion award last week at the Mesquite Marching Festival.
The Forney High School percussion section competed in the Indoor Drum Line Competition as well and placed 2nd overall while the Forney High School Colorguard won their Indoor competition.
The Forney High School band is led by directors Mark Poole, Chris Adler, and Michael Mathew with assistance from Cody Russell (Warren Middle School), Emily Keliher (Warren Middle School), Casey Snead (guard tech) and Shannon Jacobs (percussion tech).
The Forney High School and North Forney High School marching bands travel to Mesquite Memorial Stadium next Wednesday for the 2014-2015 UIL Marching contest. North Forney High School will perform at 7:15 p.m. and Forney High School will perform at 8 p.m.
