FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School Marching Band made district history Tuesday night in their 4th place finish at the 2023 UIL State Marching Band Competition at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

FORNEY, Texas — The Forney High School Marching Band made district history Tuesday night in their 4th place finish at the 2023 UIL State Marching Band Competition at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Monday night, the Forney High School Marching Band climbed the ranks to 5th place, becoming only one of 12 teams to advance from the State Prelims to the Finals on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Hoping for a better finish on Tuesday night, the band delivered and, with that, made district history with the highest finish for the marching band at the state competition.

"We are so proud of our current and former FHS band members to make tonight happen," Forney ISD Fine Arts Director Mario Luna tells inForney.com. "History being made tonight!"

"Congrats to Mr. Newman, his staff, and students for bringing the Arena to San Antonio," he said.

Texas high schools can earn appearances in the state competition every other year.

Forney High School has had 10 appearances at the state competition, 8 of those in the last 8 straight competitions — 1982, 1983, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023. They've advanced to the Finals four times now — 1982, 2009, 2021, and 2023.

Earlier this month, on Saturday, November 4, 2023, the Forney High School Marching Band competed in the Bands of America Super Regional — oft regarded as one of the toughest competitions in America — and placed 18th out of 65 teams, the highest in Forney HS history at the competition.
