The Forney High School Marching Band advanced to the Texas State Marching Band Contest in San Antonio, Texas, after their performance in the Area C Competition at Mesquite Memorial Stadium in Mesquite, Texas, on Saturday, October 26, 2013.
This is the third consecutive competition year the Forney High School Marching Band has competed at the state level – as finalist in 2009 and competitors in 2011. Marching bands are only given the opportunity to advance to the state level every other year.
The competition in Mesquite, Texas, was halted by rain late in the competition after the prelims were conducted and scored. Later that night, judges cancelled the finals portion of the competition because of the rain and advanced the top five teams based on their prelim scores, according to UIL regulations.
Also advancing from the Area C Competition are Waxahachie who took first place, Sherman in second place, Wylie in third place, Mesquite Poteet in fourth place, and Forney in fifth place. The five bands from Area C will compete against 23 other teams from across the state at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on November 5, 2013. Forney High School is scheduled to perform at 3:45 p.m.
The Forney High School Band Boosters are also seeking sponsorships now that the band is advancing to state. The sponsorships, which start at $100, will include placement on the bands semi-truck, website, and other promotional material. Contact forneyhsbandboosters@gmail.com for more information.
