Forney HS back-to-back Grand Champions at 28th Annual Desoto Marching Classic

FORNEY, Texas — Forney High School and North Forney High School competed at the 28th Annual Desoto Marching Classic over the weekend and Forney High School, for the second year in a row, was named the Grand Champion.

FORNEY, Texas — Forney High School and North Forney High School competed at the 28th Annual Desoto Marching Classic over the weekend and Forney High School, for the second year in a row, was named the Grand Champion.

“Both FISD bands had a great prelims performance which advanced both bands to finals,” according to Forney ISD Fine Arts Director Mario Luna.

In addition to being named Grand Champion, Forney High School also received Best in Class Winds, Marching, Guard, Percussion and Visual in prelims and Best Winds, Percussion, Guard and Marching in finals performance, according to Luna.

The UIL Regional Marching Contest takes place tomorrow, Wednesday, October 13, 2015, at Mesquite Memorial Stadium. Forney High School is scheduled to perform at 7:15 p.m. with North Forney High School scheduled to perform at 8:15 p.m.

“This school year is an advancing State year for 1A, 3A, and 5A schools,” stated Luna. “Schools that receive a first division this Wednesday advance to the Area Marching Contest which takes place on October 24th.”

The Forney High School band has gone undefeated this season, according to band director Mark Poole. “I have never had a group as successful in my entire career,” he stated.
