Forney High School student Lane Johnson received a nomination from Congressman Hensarling to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Hensarling and Johnson met for the first time since the nomination at a Town Hall meeting hosted by the Congressman addressing government spending.
Forney High School student Lane Johnson received a nomination from Congressman Hensarling to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. Hensarling and Johnson met for the first time since the nomination at a Town Hall meeting hosted by the Congressman addressing government spending.
The Town Hall meeting was held at the Forney Justice Center on Wednesday afternoon, January 30, at 4:15 p.m. Lane Johnson and his parents attended the meeting with well over 100 other area residents.
17-year-old Johnson is a senior at Forney High School and plans to attend the Naval Academy on June 27, 2013. Upon graduation, 4 years later, he will become an officer in the United Sates Marine Corps.
Johnson is the Forney High School Class President, a National Honor Society officer, and ranked in the top 4% in his class. Johnson was also a recipient of the Texas High School Coaches Association's and the United States Marine Corps Academic All-State Football 1st Team award. Johnson's list of accomplishments continue with his role as team captain for the Forney High School Jackrabbits, a member of the Spanish Honor Society, and a starting basketball player at FHS.
Caroline Johnson, Lane's mother, described a memory of Johnson when he was 14, “He ran a marathon with absolutely no training whatsoever and finished in 4 hours and 12 minutes!” Caroline Johnson also said Lane was, “Nominated last year to represent the Forney ISD in a leadership conference for a week on board the U.S.S. Lexington in Corpus Christi, Texas.”
Johnson's parents say he is an amazing young man and left him with some words of advice, “We would like to encourage Lane to remember a few things as he moves forward with his life and the journey ahead. Semper Fideles. Always be faithful to yourself, your God, your family, the constiution you swear to defend, and the men whose lives depend on you. Also, to have love for everything you do and everyone you meet.”
