Forney ISD hosts four world-class drum and bugle corps, defending world champs

FORNEY, Texas – The Forney Independent School District hosted four world-class drum and bugle corps over the past week including the 2013 Drum Corps International World Champions Carolina Crown from Fort Mill, South Carolina.

FORNEY, Texas – The Forney Independent School District hosted four world-class drum and bugle corps over the past week including the 2013 Drum Corps International World Champions Carolina Crown from Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Last week, North Forney High School hosted the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps from San Antonio, Texas, and Forney High School hosted The Cavaliers from Rosemont, Illinois. This week, North Forney High School hosted Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps from Austin, Texas, and Forney High School hosted the defending Word Champions the Carolina Crown.

The corps were competing in a number of area Drum Corps International competitions in Denton, Texas; Round Rock, Texas – which rained out; Houston, Texas; Dallas, Texas; and the Drum Corps International Southwestern Championship.

The Carolina Crown took 5th in the World Class division at the Southwestern Championships in San Antonio at the Alamodome on July 19, 2014, The Cavaliers took 6th, Crossmen took 12th, and Genesis took 1st in the Open Class.

β€œIt's been a great resource for our [Forney ISD] kids to watch,” Forney ISD Director of Fine Arts Mario Luna told inForney.com. β€œThis is basically the equivalent of a NFL practicing in our stadiums, them watching the top drum corps in our area has been great.”

More than 100 students from Forney ISD are expected to make the trip Wildcat-Ram Stadium at Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas, tonight to watch the Drum Corps International Dallas competition, according to Luna.

The Drum Corps International World Class Finals will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana, in August.
