Forney ISD students named All-State musicians, to perform in San Antonio

FORNEY, Texas — Several Forney Independent School District (ISD) students were named All-State Musicians and will perform in San Antonio, Texas, next week at the 2015 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic and Convention which is expected to draw approximately 26,000 attendees and is considered the nation’s largest music educators convention.

FORNEY, Texas — Several Forney Independent School District (ISD) students were named All-State Musicians and will perform in San Antonio, Texas, next week at the 2015 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic and Convention which is expected to draw approximately 26,000 attendees and is considered the nation’s largest music educators convention.

The students, according to Forney ISD Fine Arts Director Mario Luna, began competing for All-State with a pool of over 60,000 students throughout Texas. Of those, 860 are selected to perform with All-State Concert and Jazz Bands and 616 are selected to perform with All-State Choirs.

The convention will be held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, Texas, from Wednesday, February 11, 2015, through Saturday, February 14, 2015.

The following students were selected to either make the trip or record:

Trevor Clipp, a junior at Forney High School (FHS), will perform tuba. This is Clipp’s first trip to TMEA as an All-State selection. Clip studies tuba privately with Mr. Chris Combest.

Joseph Fadley, a FHS senior, placed 1st chair in the Area auditions which allowed him to record for the TMEA All-State band on tenor saxophone.

Lauren Dalton, a NFHS senior, was named as an alternate to the All-State choir in the alto I section.

Kyle Grubbs, a NFHS senior, was seated fourth chair in the bass II section of the All-State choir. This is Kyle’s second trip to San Antonio.

Trent Hall, a NFHS junior, was seated third chair in the bass II section.

Becky Blackshear, a NFHS senior, made the All-State band on flute. Becky studies privately with Mr. Eduardo Martinez. This is her second trip to San Antonio.

Di Menique Demps, a NFHS senior, made the All-State band on bass trombone. Di Menique studies privately with Mr. Shawn Smith. This is his second trip to San Antonio.

Bishop Gragg, a NFHS sophomore, made the All-State band on French horn. This is Bishop’s first trip to perform as a member of the TMEA All-State organization. Bishop studies privately with Mr. Ray Henninger.

Jarod Walker, a NFHS senior, recorded for the TMEA All-state band on oboe.
