Forney ISD Students Qualify for UIL Academic Regionals

FORNEY ISD - Students from Forney High School and North Forney High School competed at the District UIL Academics meet on Friday, April 5. Both schools had students advance to the Regionals meet, which will take place at the end of April.

The North Forney Literary Criticism Team placed 2nd overall at their meet for UIL 6A District 10. Ivy Fisher placed 4th individually, and Isabelle Joyce placed 5th individually. The Ready Writing team had two regional qualifiers. Roberto Castaneda, who placed 1st, Miriam Coker, who placed 3rd, and Alyssa Platenero, who placed 4th, will all compete at regionals. In Poetry, Ella Bazile also qualified for regionals with her 3rd place medal.

In UIL 5A District 14, Forney High School advanced to regionals in 15 of the 16 events they competed in. Students medaled in all 16 events and FHS was named District Champion. The Forney High School Journalism team took 1st place as a team, with individual qualifiers Jane Salgado, Isabelle Johanson, and Katherine Spiller receiving 1st, 2nd, and 5th. In Headline writing, Katherine Spiller placed 1st, Jane Salgado placed 2nd, and Isabelle Johanson placed 4th, and in Feature Writing, Katherine Spiller placed 1st, Jane Salgado placed 3rd, and Katelyn Daily placed 5th. Katelyn Daily, Isabelle Johanson, and Jane Salgado also placed 1st, 2nd, and 6th in News Writing and, in Copy Editing, Katherine Spiller placed 2nd, Jane Salgado placed 3rd, and Katelyn Daily placed 5th.

The Spelling Team placed 1st as a team, with Ainsley Beyer and Noelle Dilla placing 1st and 5th individually. The Computer Science team also placed 1st as a team and swept 1st through 6th place with Caleb Bui, Keljin Kim Carbonell, Allison Johanson, Peace Abolude, Casey Mari Apurado, and Minhao Ni.

The Science team placed 2nd with individual medallers Jax Claxton, Casey Mari Apurado, Madelyn Wylie and Allison Johanson receiving 2nd, 4th (tie), and 6th. The Calculator Applications team also placed 2nd overall with Madelyn Wylie receiving 3rd place and Casey Mari Apurado receiving 4th place.

Social Studies and Current Issues and Events both took 1st place as a team. Jessica Mathew, Jonathan Ruest, Diego Padilla, Annabelle Du, and Juillia Iordache placed 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in Social Studies. Jessica Mathew, Allison Johanson, Annebelle Du, and Jullia Iordache placed 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th in Current Events.

The Math team had three students place: Casey Mari Apurado placed 3rd, and Minhao Ni and Keljin Kim Carbonell tied for 5th. Tyler Harlan also placed 6th in Number Sense.

The Literary Criticism team placed 1st overall with Michael Jones, Hailey Lemme, Layla Belisle, Riley King, and Khloe Acker placing 1st-5th.

The Accounting team also placed first with Javier Gamon, Kadence Hatfield, and Brandon Gee placing 1st, 3rd, and 4th. Ready Writing also had three FHS qualifiers. Khloe Acker placed 1st, Hannah Kamoto placed 2nd, and Layla Belisle placed 3rd.

For North Forney High School qualifiers, the regional meet will take place at Prosper Rock Hill High School. Forney High School qualifiers will compete at UT Arlington. Both meets will be held April 26–27.
