FORNEY, Texas — The Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees voted to purchase 8,000 HP Chromebooks at their regularly scheduled meeting on February 29, 2016.
The purchase will supply each student between 4th grade and 12th grade with an HP Chromebook 11 G4 EE and also students between Kindergarten and 3rd grade on a 4:1 ratio.
The Chromebooks will be purchased on a three year financing and device renewal plan with a total purchase price of $1,447,530 and financing of $26,000. Each Chromebook was designed and built more “ruggedized” for classroom and education purposes and will also include GoGuardian security software.
The district’s original proposal in April 2015 estimated the purchase at approximately $2.5 million on a five-year financing and device renewal plan but, through a Request For Proposals in January, received a reduced rate due to continually reduced pricing on the devices.
This fall, Forney ISD will begin rolling out the devices to staff, according to the district.
HP introduced the 2.7-pound Chromebook G4 EE, the Education Edition, in January 2016, and announced features expected to “survive the rigorous school environment.”
The Chromebook G4 EE features spill-resistant keyboard, rugged construction accents such as co-molded rubber edges, 180-degree display hinge, a 9.5-hour battery life, and passes HP’s 70 cm drop test.
