FORNEY, Texas — 93 Forney Independent School District Visual Art students recently competed in the Region 10 East VASE competition returning with 116 gold medals and 16 area medals with works advancing to state competition.
FORNEY, Texas — 93 Forney Independent School District Visual Art students recently competed in the Region 10 East VASE competition returning with 116 gold medals and 16 area medals with works advancing to state competition.
The students competed in the region competition against 28 area high schools from Mesquite, Wylie, Rockwall, Rowlett, Richardson, Garland, Sachse, Heath, Greenville, and Sunnyvale, according to Forney ISD Fine Arts Director Mario Luna.
“Judges interviewed and evaluated 1,593 students and their artwork,” stated Luna.
49 Forney High School students presented 86 pieces of artwork with 72 receiving gold medals and nine receiving area medals. The Forney High School medals are on display in the A-hall at Forney High School.
Advancing to the State VASE Competition in San Antonio on April 22-24, 2016, are Savannah Baugh with “Against the Wire,” Jocelyn Castellanos with “Rainy,” Caden Kile with “Gerald Walker Cameraman,” ChaSondra Lucas with “Pressure,” Gabrielle Melendez with “Perch,” Vanessa Rocha with “Fast Food,” Vanessa Rocha with “Helping Hands,” Raul Rodriguez with “Fence,” and Christina Spencer with “The Void.”
44 North Forney High School students presented 68 pieces or artwork with 44 medaling and advancing to the area-round of competition and seven advancing to the state competition in April. The state competitors are Faring Singman, Abigail Jarrett, Jacy Castillo with two pieces, Emma Sumrow, and Kenna Holcomb with two pieces.
“Congratulations to all of our students and to those advancing to State VASE,” stated Luna.
